Back-to-School Drive Benefits Dinuba Students
Joint efforts by the Tulare County Department of Child Support Services and Valley Strong Credit Union
As an organization that represents local child support directors, we are thrilled and proud to announce the Tulare County Department of Child Support Services’ initiative to support the community and improve the education journey of children during Child Support Awareness Month.
The Tulare County Department of Child Support Services (TCDCSS) has teamed up with Valley Strong Credit Union to hold a Back-to-School Drive benefiting students in Dinuba.
Their goal was to collect 60 to 100 backpacks filled with school supplies as this was their first year. They exceeded their goal by collecting 170 backpacks filled with school supplies. In addition, they had an excess of supplies and were able to provide that to Jefferson Elementary as well.
On August 7th, Jennifer K. Guido, Assistant Director conducted a small gathering of Jefferson Elementary School Faculty, School Board Members, Valley Strong Credit Union Branch Manager, Tulare County Child Support Professionals, Tulare County District 4 Supervisor Eddie Valero, and family members, presenting Jefferson Elementary School with 170 backpacks filled with school supplies. She provided a history of Child Support Services and the services that are offered at the local level, while wishing the school a safe, fun, and successful school year.
Jefferson Elementary School’s reaction was full of excitement, surprise and full of expressions of gratitude for a community of school children in need of school supplies. School Principal Mr. Jonathan Torres expressed gratitude for the service that child support provides and for keeping the heart of their children a primary focus.
The response to this type of event is a true testament to a whole community partnership.
Tulare County Department of Child Support Services (TCDCSS) goal is to collect and distribute child support. TCDCSS is 66% federally funded and 34% state funded. None of the funding is provided by the county; however, services are administered by the County.
TCDCSS establishes parentage, locates missing parents, establishes and modifies support orders, enforces orders by collecting and distributing support payments, maintains accounting records for money owed and distributed, and establishes and enforces medical, dental and vision care. “TCDCSS mission is to enrich our community by providing child support services, giving back to families and partnering with community when and where we can,” said Roger Dixon, Tulare County Child Support Services Director.
"While our vision is to educate and empower families with the knowledge and resources to promote the well-being of children, being able to partner with Valley Strong Credit Union to bring such an event to the local community, not only positively impacts the children in need, but it also contributes to their success moving forward,” said Jennifer K. Guido, Child Support Services Assistant Director.
